When you go to a restaurant, even one as mediocre as McDonald's. there are certain things you expect as a MINIMUM.
1. You expect your servers and cashiers to not act like they hate their job. Having been in that kind of employment before, I could care less if they actually DO hate their job or not. But when I'm eating there, paying them my money for their food, I expect them to at least give me a smile.
2. The food should be at least tolerable. And correct. Now, I try to not be the guy who whines about a piece of lettuce on my burger. But there IS a line to draw.
3. The place needs to be clean. I'm not saying it should be hermetically sealed and soaked in glycol. But I DO expect the floors to not be teeming with wild fauna.
That last tenant is what I am here to gripe about today. My wife, my son, and I went to the McDonald's we usually go to around lunch time today. We went to the Playplace as we usually do to let Michael burn off some energy. All was fine and dandy for a while. Michael played nice with the other kids, and the other parents were very pleasant to be around...
Until the janitor came into the room. He was changing the trash bag, as he usually did around that time. (You can tell we've been there a lot.) I paid no attention to it until I heard one of the parents say "Oh my God, that's disgusting!" I wheeled around in my chair and asked what had happened.
The woman informed me that she had seen a mouse scurry away when the janitor was changing the trash bags. I couldn't quite believe what I was hearing, so I had to take a look. But when I peered into the empty garbage receptacle, sure enough, there were scattered mouse droppings. But no sign of a mouse.
The woman suggested we look for the mouse. So we all looked in various places for the vicious vermin, only to discover a cockroach inside the children's play equipment near the mouth of the slide.
I guess it just goes to show you to never trust something unless you've inspected it yourself. My family and I thought the place was extraordinary until today. We even had Michael's first birthday in that Playplace.
Needless to say, I'm rather disappointed. We will be searching for a new "usual" restaurant.
